I've collected some info on WinSock (documentation) and public domain
sources of WinSock programs that can be useful as examples (that's how I
got started). You can get them through FTP at MAXPC3.TECHNION.AC.IL,
loggin in as ANONYMOUS. All is in the WINSOCK subdir.

I am running WinTalk on Trumpet Winsock version 2 B Beta over a Banyan vines
system and it runs fairly well. When I first installed the system (after
getting the beta 2 B version) I had a lot of stability problems (computer
boots) that I had not had before I installed it. It's tough to say if it was
the WinTalk or the prerelease winsock though. The one problem that I have had
inconsistently is that occasionally I will get a call and it will crash out
other systems or sometimes I will crash altogether. There seemed to be a
problem if I was running WinVN and someone called. I have been running WinQVT
and have not noticed that this affects the stability of the system at all. It
has problems, but I've had many a long conversation on it and can't knock it.
